تخيّل نفسك تُبحر عبر المحيط على متن سفينة طويلة، محاطة بمحاربين شجعان يرتدون خوذات مزينة بقرون! هذه هي حياة الفايكنغ. كانوا مستكشفين، محاربين، تجارًا، ومستعمرين نوردسين من شمال أوروبا. في الفترة من القرن الثامن إلى القرن الحادي عشر، أثار الفايكنغ الرعب والإعجاب في آنٍ واحد في قلوب الكثيرين.
ولم تكن أساطيرهم أقل إثارة. في أساطيرهم، كان يُعتقد أن آلهتهم مثل أودين، إله الحرب والحكمة، وتور، إله الرعد، يحكمون العالم. الحياة في مجتمع الفايكنغ كانت تدور حول الشجاعة والولاء والتجارة. لم يكونوا مجرد محاربين، بل كانوا أيضًا مزارعين وحرفيين مهرة.
