After graduating from high school, Khyree attended the University of Oregon, where he shone as a defensive back. In 2024, he was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. Everyone expected him to make a significant impact on the team, but fate had other plans.
On the morning of July 6, 2024, Khyree was involved in a tragic car accident in Maryland. He was driving with his friends when their car was struck by another vehicle driven by a drunk driver. Khyree died instantly, leaving behind a grieving family and heartbroken fans.
Despite his short career, Khyree left an unforgettable mark on his teammates and coaches. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell spoke about Khyree, saying, “Khyree had a contagious personality and positive energy. He was always striving to improve himself and had a great passion for the game.”
To honor his memory, the Minnesota Vikings decided to place a decal with the initials “KJ” on the players’ helmets throughout the season. Additionally, an empty seat in the locker room was dedicated to him, bearing his jersey number 31. These gestures were a testament to the love and respect Khyree commanded among his peers.
