Chuma Okeke is an American professional basketball player who has made a name for himself in the NBA. Born on August 18, 1998, in Atlanta, Georgia, Okeke’s journey to professional basketball began at Westlake High School, where he showcased his talent by winning the Georgia Class 6A state championship. His impressive performance earned him the title of Mr. Georgia Basketball during his senior year, solidifying his reputation as a rising star.
Okeke continued his basketball career at Auburn University, where he played for the Tigers. As a freshman, he averaged 7.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, setting records for rebounds by an Auburn freshman. His sophomore year was even more remarkable, with averages of 12 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.8 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game. Unfortunately, his college career was cut short due to an ACL injury during the NCAA tournament, but his contributions helped Auburn reach its first Final Four appearance.
In the 2019 NBA Draft, Okeke was selected 16th overall by the Orlando Magic. Despite his injury, he was considered a “steal of the draft” due to his potential. He spent his rookie year recovering and later joined the Magic’s G League affiliate before signing his rookie contract. Over the years, Okeke has played for teams like the Philadelphia 76ers and the Westchester Knicks in the G League.
