في فجر يوم الجمعة، الرابع من أبريل 2025، استيقظت منطقة الخليج العربي على خبر هزة أرضية بلغت قوتها 4 درجات على مقياس ريختر، على بُعد 55 كيلومترًا شرق مدينة الجبيل. هذه الهزة الأرضية، رغم صغرها، أثارت فضول الكثيرين حول أسبابها وتأثيراتها. وفقًا لهيئة المساحة الجيولوجية السعودية، يعود السبب إلى الإجهادات التي تتعرض لها الصدوع القديمة في المنطقة، نتيجة حركة الصفيحة العربية واصطدامها بالصفيحة الأوراسية
