In a historic move, the Lebanese parliament elected army chief Joseph Aoun as the president, ending a more than two-year presidential vacuum. Born on January 10, 1964, in Sin el Fil, a northern suburb of Beirut, Joseph Aoun is known for his leadership skills and political neutrality. He joined the Lebanese army in 1983 during the Lebanese Civil War and rose through the ranks to become the army chief in 2017
