In 1995, she was the president of the fan club of the famed singer Selena and also managed her fashion line. However, suspicions started to grow around Yolanda as she was accused of embezzlement and betrayal.
On March 31, 1995, she was summoned to a hotel in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she met with Selena to confront the allegations. Tragedy struck when Selena was shot during the encounter. She tried to escape the room but collapsed outside the door. She was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, she died at the young age of 23.
The trial that followed was one of the most watched in U.S. history, with Yolanda claiming that the shooting was an accident. However, evidence and testimonies suggested otherwise, leading to her being sentenced to life in prison.
