فيلاديمير بوتين هو أحد الشخصيات الأكثر تأثيراً وإثارة للجدل في السياسة العالمية. وُلد في 7 أكتوبر 1952 في لينينغراد (الآن سانت بطرسبرغ)، روسيا، ترعرع بوتين في بيئة كانت تشهد تغييرات هائلة في الاتحاد السوفييتي السابق.
بدأ بوتين مسيرته المهنية في الكي جي بي، وهو جهاز المخابرات السوفييتي، حيث كان يعمل كعميل مخابرات في الخارج. بعد سقوط الاتحاد السوفييتي، انتقل بوتين إلى العمل في الحكومة الروسية. في عام 1999، أصبح رئيساً للحكومة الروسية، ومن ثم رئيساً في عام 2000.
