تُعدّ مدينة دونكيرك (Dunkerque) واحدة من أكثر المدن التي تحمل ذكريات الحرب العالمية الثانية أهمية، وقد شهدت أحداثًا درامية خطيرة غيرت مجرى التاريخ. تُلقّب هذه المدينة الساحلية الواقعة في شمال فرنسا بـ “مدينة الأبطال”، وذلك بفضل عملية إجلاء “دينامو” التي أصبحت إحدى أبرز معارك الحرب.
في أواخر مايو وأوائل يونيو من عام 1940، كانت القوات الألمانية تتقدم بسرعة مذهلة عبر أوروبا. وتم محاصرة مئات الآلاف من الجنود البريطانيين والفرنسيين في شواطئ دونكيرك. بدا الهلاك محتوماً، إذ كان البحر من خلفهم والعدو من أمامهم. ولكن وسط تلك الأوقات العصيبة، تجلى بطولتهم وشجاعتهم.
استجاب البريطانيون لنداء الإجلاء بتكامل وجرأة، وجمعت كل شيء يمكنه الإبحار، من قوارب الصيد إلى الزوارق الخاصة، لنقل الجنود العالقين عبر القنال الإنجليزي. خلال تسعة أيام من المعارك الشرسة تحت نيران القذائف والهجمات الجوية، تم إنقاذ أكثر من 338,000 جندي في “معجزة دونكيرك”.
لا تزال هذه القصة تتردد أصداؤها حتى اليوم، مرسخةً روح الشجاعة والتضحية. وقد تم تجسيد هذه الأحداث في فيلم “دونكيرك” الذي صدر عام 2017، مضيفًا لمسة سينمائية تعيد إحياء ذكرى هذه الأيام العصيبة.

The city of Dunkirk is a place steeped in dramatic history, a symbol of heroism and resilience during one of the darkest times of World War II. This coastal city in Northern France, often referred to as the “City of Heroes,” is famous for the miraculous Operation Dynamo, a key event that forever altered the course of history.
In late May and early June of 1940, German forces were sweeping across Europe at an alarming rate. Hundreds of thousands of British and French soldiers found themselves trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk, surrounded by the enemy with their backs to the sea. It seemed certain doom was imminent, yet in the face of despair, their courage shone through.
In response to the desperate call for evacuation, the British mustered a diverse flotilla, from fishing boats to private yachts, to rescue the stranded soldiers. Over nine harrowing days, under constant bombardment and aerial attacks, more than 338,000 soldiers were evacuated across the English Channel in what became known as the “Miracle of Dunkirk.”
This story continues to resonate today, embodying the spirit of courage and sacrifice. The events were vividly brought to life in the 2017 film “Dunkirk,” adding a cinematic touch to the memories of those harrowing days.
