منذ بدء الأزمة في اليمن عام 2015، ظهر الحوثيون كطرف رئيسي ومؤثر في الحرب الأهلية الدائرة هناك. الجماعة التي تتخذ من “أنصار الله” اسمًا لها، تتمتع بتاريخ طويل ومعقد يمتد إلى التسعينيات. ولكن مع انهيار الحكومة اليمنية وتصاعد الصراعات الداخلية، أصبحت الجماعة قوة لا يستهان بها، قادرة على السيطرة على أجزاء واسعة من البلاد بما في ذلك العاصمة صنعاء.

Since the onset of the Yemeni crisis in 2015, the Houthis have emerged as a major and influential player in the ongoing civil war. The group, which calls itself “Ansar Allah,” has a long and complex history dating back to the 1990s. However, with the collapse of the Yemeni government and the escalation of internal conflicts, the group has become a formidable force, capable of controlling vast swathes of the country, including the capital, Sana’a.
The Houthis’ objectives range from political to religious, exploiting Zaydi identity in an attempt to rebuild Yemen according to their own vision. Their military support varies from Iranian backing to internal arms they have captured from weapon depots. One of the most dramatic moments in this conflict was the ballistic missile launches on Saudi Arabia, adding an international dimension to the dispute.
As an armed group, the Houthis are accused of numerous human rights abuses and employing tactics such as forced child recruitment and assaults on civilians.
