In a controversial move, President Donald Trump signed executive orders aimed at ending Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs within the federal government. This step is part of his efforts to reshape the government system to be solely merit-based, as he mentioned in his inaugural speech.
Trump ordered all DEI employees to be placed on paid leave by the end of the week and directed the removal of all DEI-related media from websites and social media. He also ordered the cancellation of all DEI training and the termination of contracts with DEI-related contractors.
This move follows a series of executive orders signed by Trump on his first day in office, aiming to rescind numerous previous executive orders that aimed to promote diversity within the federal government.
The orders also direct the Attorney General to submit recommendations for enforcing federal civil rights laws and taking appropriate measures to encourage the private sector to end illegal discrimination and preferences, including DEI.
