كان البابليون أحد أعظم حضارات العصور القديمة، وإرثهم يبقى حتى يومنا هذا. في بلاد ما بين النهرين، على ضفاف نهر الفرات، قامت مدينة بابل الشهيرة. بابل لم تكن فقط مدينة عظيمة، ولكنها كانت مهدًا للثقافة والعلم والتكنولوجيا.
يشتهر البابليون بمآثرهم العظيمة في مجالات عديدة. حدائق بابل المعلقة، واحدة من عجائب الدنيا السبع، هي شهادة على مهاراتهم الهندسية. تُروى الأساطير عن هذه الحدائق بأنها كانت معلقة في الهواء وكأنها لوحة فنية تعكس جمال الطبيعة.
ومع ذلك، لم تكن الهندسة وحدها ما جعل البابليين عظماء. تطويرهم لنظام العد الستيني، الذي نستخدمه اليوم لقياس الوقت والزوايا، أظهر قدراتهم الرياضية الفذة. كما أنهم اخترعوا أول نظام قانوني مكتوب – قانون حمورابي – الذي يُعد من أقدم النظم القانونية في التاريخ.
النجوم كانت دائمًا جزءًا من حياة البابليين. قاموا برصد النجوم والكواكب ووضعوا أسس علم الفلك الحديث. بل إن التقويم الذي نستخدمه اليوم يعتمد على ملاحظاتهم الدقيقة.
اللغة والأدب لم يكونا أقل أهمية. البابلية، التي كانت تُكتب بالمسمارية، هي واحدة من أقدم اللغات المكتوبة. ومن بين النصوص الشهيرة التي وُجدت، “ملحمة جلجامش” التي تُعد واحدة من أقدم القصص الملحمية في العالم.
البابليون قدموا لنا الكثير وما زال تأثيرهم حاضرًا في حياتنا اليومية. لذا، عندما تنظر إلى الساعة، أو تحسب الزوايا، أو تقرأ عن نظام قانوني، تذكر أن البابليين كانوا أول من خطى هذه الخطوات العظيمة.

The Babylonians
The Babylonians were one of the greatest civilizations of ancient times, and their legacy remains with us today. In Mesopotamia, on the banks of the Euphrates River, stood the famous city of Babylon. Babylon was not just a grand city, but it was a cradle of culture, science, and technology.
The Babylonians are renowned for their remarkable feats in many fields. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, stand as a testament to their engineering prowess. Legends tell that these gardens hung in the air like a breathtaking painting reflecting the beauty of nature.
However, it was not engineering alone that made the Babylonians great. Their development of the sexagesimal (base-60) system, which we use today to measure time and angles, showcased their exceptional mathematical abilities. They also created the first written legal system – the Code of Hammurabi – which is one of the oldest legal codes in history.
The stars were always a part of Babylonian life. They observed the stars and planets and laid the foundations of modern astronomy. Even the calendar we use today is based on their precise observations.
Language and literature were no less important. Babylonian, written in cuneiform script, is one of the oldest written languages. Among the famous texts found is the “Epic of Gilgamesh,” which is one of the oldest epic tales in the world.
The Babylonians gave us so much, and their influence is still present in our daily lives. So, when you look at the clock, measure angles, or read about a legal system, remember that the Babylonians were the pioneers of these great steps.
